Greetings all new UWA first years for 2008! We hope that your enrolment has gone as smoothly as can be expected, and that this post finds you chirpy and hungry for more info about the first year experience at UWA!

You've come to the right place, and we've got a handful of useful resources right here for you to check out (click here for the full post):

1. We have a collection of blog posts from our 3 featured first year bloggers from last year - Dion, Elza and Anne. You can click on their links to see a blogroll collection of all of their posts from last year, in reverse chronological order. If you prefer, we have a First Year 07 highlights page which collects some of the best posts about the first 6 weeks at uni into one place...

Dion - was a first year Medical Student.

Anne - was a first year Law/Arts Student.

Elza - was a first year Medical Student.

These three bloggers were all students from rural areas living on campus at college, and offer a unique perspective on the first year experience.

2. We have two brand-spanking shiny new Node Videos, one about finding your way around Student Services, and the other about the Student Internet Support Office & how to sign up for internet access at UWA. Check them out!

3. UWA's transition website - www.transition.uwa.edu.au, offers oodles and oodles of information about the transition from school/life to university. Whether it's signing up for a UniMentor, finding info about OLCR and timetabling, finding out how to defer an exam through UniAccess, or to join the UniSkills programme, you'll either find what your looking for, or find the contact for the staff member that you have to ask. Get on down to transition.uwa.edu.au

4. If you are a rural student, an international student, a mature age student or a student from a school or group that is under-represented at UWA, you are eleigible to join the free UniSkills Programme. The programme offers the 2-day 'Flying Start' Orientation, semester-long Study Groups, free lunches and activities throughuot the semester, and so much more. Head to the UniSkills website for more info, including their web application form.

I've gotta say, following

I've gotta say, following the stories of these three bloggers hasn't just been an interesting story, it's been a real and vital experience. From Anne's breathtaking ride through PROSH to Dion's crushing realization that lectures just weren't going to be the same as high-school classes, the whole trip has just been something else! As a first-year, I went through the same feelings of angst and confusion as our three embattled bloggers, but with the supportive guidance of all the university staff I found the courage to be myself and meet tons of great new friends! I think it's great that this kind of information is being made available for anyone to read through this Web2.0 site - all in the name of improving the student experience. Keep it up, guys!
