Greetings, fellow students!
Let's get straight down to business: the title of this blog. Now, as I'm sure most of you will have noticed, the first week back was rather moist. Perhaps I'd go as far as calling it wet. Again, as I'm sure you've noticed, the UWA campus is not that easy to navigate if you desire to remain dry. Apart from the gushing waterfalls (sans ukele music), there are the sizable puddles.
Therefore I suggest punts. Yes: small, flatbottomed boaty things that are mainly used on small lakes and rivers. They come with a long pole (and perhaps an attractive, erudite young person, who not only entertains with charm and humor, but also wields the pole in a calm and soothing manner. Oh, and doesn't run into ducks). Cast your mind about and you will realise that some of the great universities in the world have punts. Case in point: Oxford.
We can punt. Albeit only when it rains. Which it does. About 8 days a year. Not only will we, come 2050, be in the top 50 universities worldwide, we will do so with punting ability.
Therefore I urge each and every one of you - even you: don't pretend you didn't read this! - to make this dream a reality. Go to UWA's open day on Sunday the 9th of August, and tell the new comers, the I'm-not-sure-yetters, how glorious a rainy day on campus will be with our new punts. Espouse your views on wooden constructions designed to float!
Also, good luck with your studies and all that - go to lectures, speak up in tutorials, make sure you eat lunch and don't think you can sneak that flat white into Reid!
Until further notice:
