First day of semester is on us tomorrow. If you are a new first year student on campus, take up the following challenge this first week:

1. say hello to at least 2 people you have never met before in each lecture you attend this week
2. borrow a book from the library
3. read your student email at least twice during the week

and take time out to sit around and chat. This is the time to get to know people. The real work begins a bit further down the track, once tutorials and labs get going. Invite people from your classes to join you in the coffeeshop or find a shady spot outside. Uni is more fun when you have some friends on campus and even if you know lots of people, there will be others who don't know anyone. So look out for others and introduce yourself to some future study buddies. You never know when you'll need them.
