Fantastic job guys! An easy-to-understand IT service is a cornerstone of a great student life, and it's just swell to see real people out there, improving the student experience with this and heaps more informative but approachable sources of information. As a first-year, the Student Internet Support Office helped me get started with accessing the World Wide Web on campus! I know that we're only supposed to use it for work - but sometimes I like to goof off on Node - the Web2.0 site for UWA students!
Not only is the SISO a great place to hang out and shoot the breeze with your fellow students, should you have any friends working for "THE MAN" (the University IT department) (haha, just kidding!) but once you've signed up for a Full Access Account, you'll find yourself with access to a whole new world of social computing!
Simply get out your laptop or "personal digital assistant", connect it to the University's wireless network, and enjoy all the wonderful Web 2.0 content today's Internet has to offer. Why not update your status on Facebook? Post some photos of the University's beautiful campus on Flickr? Or even use a built-in camera in your laptop to wirelessly vlog your heart out from the Reid Library Cafe on YouTube -- the number one site for watching videos* of cats attacking babies, fat people falling down flights of stairs, and helpful University staff explaining how Internet access works at UWA? Haha!
* Of course, you might find your quota depleted after an extended YouTube binge, but at only 4.5c a megabyte, how can you say no to hours of wacky online entertainment? It might even be cheaper than browsing the internet on your mobile phone!
