This is a summary of notable events that have formed the 'character' of the uwa fine arts department. By no means is it a 'true reflection' of the diversity of the UWA experience, which is, on the whole, a mild and pleasant enviroment for students to excell safely.
Some guidelines:
Design of the course by David Bromfield.
1996...
Martin Heine and the trashing of the Cullity gallery.
Installation was called "Birth Tower" and was a joint project with Mueller, the catalogue for this exhibition was banned due to 'explicit content'
[ I really need some input here... ]
1999...
Martin Heine emulates Beuys during a performance at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, "The Honigpumpe is Kaput" This was the first and last piece of performance art permitted in the Gallery.
2005...
TV thrown off balcony incident. or the 'Keith Moon project' An 'action' by Cat Sharland. Also coincided with the 'dancing on the ledge' incident.
2006
Graffiti in stairwell incident.
2007
June: Cat Sharland's infamous Brian Burke paintings receives three days of media attention in The West Australian. CFMEU buys the entire set.
Carris' (sp?) peformance at Kurb Gallery. Locked in a cage for four days.
November: Cat Sharland's work banned from 'The Stairwell' for 'bringing down the standards of the exhibition'. Apart from a few works, the show is one of the worst I've seen at the Cullity Gallery. The paintings of Ben Cousins fallen from grace via drugs, booze, hookers... Later shown at the Kurb in the 'D&K Art Awards 2008'.
2008
The saga continues....
