How many of you turned up to the Link Week BBQ on the Oak Lawn today? For a free sausage? A free fruit juice? A free squeezy tomato sauce? A free ice cube, even?

In 2006 I got to go to Australia's only Disability Film Festival "The Other Film Festival". The festival features films made by, about and for people with disabilities and is held every 18 months, the next one is coming up in September. Its also the most accessible film festival in the country with audio descriptions for vision impaired and captions for hearing impaired. An amazing event if you can get there but if not, last time they streamed some films & workshops over the internet.

Link Week is happening next week. All the events are coming together and it looks like its going to be a great week with some good opportunities to meet more students and your lecturers informally in a festival atmosphere.

Drat - was just writing the most brilliant blog entry this side of the ring of fire and suddenly it's gone! And I can't remember what I was rambling on about!
ODay: I went with my brother who is starting his Uni career as an Arts Student come Monday. We both thought the whole thing was a bit overwhelming (we're both Mature Age students but don't break out the zimmer-frames yet!) but then, maybe that's just us.

UniSkills' Flying Start Orientation got off to a... well, Flying Start today. Students enjoyed a day of activities ranging from Campus tours to a volleyball. We all started the day with some 'icebreaker' activities.

In 2007, we asked three fabulous then-first-year students - Dion, Anne and Elza - to blog for us on the node website. We've created a collection of the best posts on the first six weeks of life at uni for a 'fresher'. Here they are (click here for the full post ):
Orientation/pre-semester

Hi there! Tonight I’m writing my blog a bit earlier. I need to go to bed soon because I work at uni tomorrow! YAY! Finally, the university is going to be more ALIVE! I am working for enrolments so it’s going to be pretty busy!
Everywhere you turn, unis and TAFE colleges are having open days or expos of some description. UWA's expo is next Sunday (19th August) [note the subtle plug!].
I may be strange, but I always enjoy Expo at UWA. I think the uni has a really good vibe to it on that day. Everyone seems pretty relaxed, and proud to show people what actually goes on here. Sort of "UWA meets the Royal Show" but with less sheep.

Are you a postgrad or staff member at UWA? If so, join LACE, UWA's Language and Cultural Exchange program. LACE offers fun social events and a way to meet people from around the uni. It's aim is intercultural friendship. Starts 13 Aug. For more info and to sign up go to www.lace.uwa.edu.au
