The luxury of 2 extra days in a weekend is hard to measure. All those tasks that normally take up most of the weekend, just so you're in shape for Monday morning again, can be spread over 4 days. There's some time to catch up on those emails with interesting links that you never quite get to usually. A bit of time to read blogs, reflect, read, even talk to people. And sleep...gradually you stop waking up at the crack of dawn. Ahh, long weekends, there should be more of them.

UniSkills' Flying Start Orientation got off to a... well, Flying Start today. Students enjoyed a day of activities ranging from Campus tours to a volleyball. We all started the day with some 'icebreaker' activities.

In 2007, we asked three fabulous then-first-year students - Dion, Anne and Elza - to blog for us on the node website. We've created a collection of the best posts on the first six weeks of life at uni for a 'fresher'. Here they are (click here for the full post ):
Orientation/pre-semester

If you need a drink to have a good time, then you want to get to the T.A.P.
In the second week of uni, my car was trapped by umpteen buses lined up
in the car park outside the Guild and Oak Lawn.
I had the 'opportunity' to see the rather ugly side of some a lot of
you. My friends and colleagues said that you were just school kids last year. Well,
I'm afraid that excuse just does not cut it. Most of us were at school before our first year at uni.

Just got back from the 2007 UWA Bike Breakfast held on Riley Oval (oval next to the University Club of Western Australia).
We got there just on 7am, a quick ride (mostly in the dark due to
Daylight Saving) from South Perth. This is my usual trek to uni, but I
have not done it this early in the morning before.
What was special about this ride, is that there was little or no
wind. Often I have a SW or SSW wind, i.e. head wind, so the weather man
was kind to me this morning.
