Enrolments

I've just been helping out at enrolments and it was so much fun. It's so wonderful to be able to assist new students with their transition. A lot of students seemed quite confused and lost, which is "normal". There is a lot to take in, a lot of new faces, a lot of new uni-lingo and acronyms, and a lot of people offering you all sorts of information. Does anyone want to share their enrolment experiences or have any transiition tips to offer?

Flying Start 2008, day 1...

Flying Start Group 2008

UniSkills' Flying Start Orientation got off to a... well, Flying Start today. Students enjoyed a day of activities ranging from Campus tours to a volleyball. We all started the day with some 'icebreaker' activities.

First Year from the perspective of a First Year

In 2007, we asked three fabulous then-first-year students - Dion, Anne and Elza - to blog for us on the node website. We've created a collection of the best posts on the first six weeks of life at uni for a 'fresher'. Here they are (click here for the full post ):

Welcome 2008 First Years!

Greetings all new UWA first years for 2008! We hope that your enrolment has gone as smoothly as can be expected, and that this post finds you chirpy and hungry for more info about the first year experience at UWA!

You've come to the right place, and we've got a handful of useful resources right here for you to check out (click here for the full post):

Expo silly season

Everywhere you turn, unis and TAFE colleges are having open days or expos of some description.  UWA's expo is next Sunday (19th August) [note the subtle plug!].

I may be strange, but I always enjoy Expo at UWA.  I think the uni has a really good vibe to it on that day.  Everyone seems pretty relaxed, and proud to show people what actually goes on here.  Sort of "UWA meets the Royal Show" but with less sheep.

Career & Education Expo

If you're passing the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre this weekend, drop in and say 'hi' to the sturdy souls from the Admissions Centre and Prospective Students Office who will be there, representing UWA at the Career & Education Expo.  It's one of two huge expos we take part in during the year (though the Prospective Students Office people attend many more school-based expos and parent nights as well) - there's another one in late June.
