node.live - Protocols and Guidelines

Protocols for use

node.live is a UWA hosted interactive website that aims to build communities of students and encourage sharing of information and expertise.

These protocols have been developed to supplement the UWA Codes, rules and policies and apply only to the node.live tools.  As such, swearing/profanity, personal attacks, harassment, discrimination and bullying will not be tolerated.  Site administrators (including blog owners) may edit and/or remove content that does not meet the node.live guidelines.

Disclaimer:

  • the views expressed on node.live are of the individual authors and not of UWA
  • UWA is not responsible for the contents of any outside sites accessed through any external links that may be provided on node.live

Guidelines for comments

node.live is written by UWA students about all aspects of their uni experience (the good, the bad and the ugly!).  You are welcome to post comments to the blogs and entries to the wikis although we’d ask that you bear a few things in mind:

  • node.live will reach a range of audiences including prospective students, current UWA students (from all faculties, backgrounds and year levels) and UWA staff.  So before you post your comment – just think about whether you’d be happy for another student, your tutor or your lecturer to read it!
  • node.live is actually open to any reader worldwide so it can be read by anyone (although people outside UWA won’t be able to post comments).  So try to maintain your own privacy (and that of your friends, family and other third parties) by not posting your surname, address, phone number or email address on node.live.
  • We want to hear about your experiences of uni life at UWA – everything from parking to social events, lectures to life in a college (or share house).  We want you to tell your stories in your own way and using your own words – but remember it’s easy to be misinterpreted online so try to follow the general rules of netiquette: http://www.albion.com/netiquette/corerules.html
  • You are welcome to post multimedia files (photos, music, video etc) if it was taken/made by you.  If the material is copyrighted, it’s best to post a link to it instead.

Instructions for writers

Student writers will be recruited on a casual part-time basis to write (in the first instance) for the Transition blog.  The arrangement with the student bloggers involves:

  • Each writer will complete an application form and agree to the protocols for use
  • Each writer will post at least one paragraph/contribution per week during Semester 1, 2007
  • Writers will be encouraged to use their ‘authentic voice’ and to consider the audiences that may read their comments
  • Writers will be asked to write on any aspect of student life.  Where they have experienced a problem or difficulty (at Uni) they will be encouraged to also write about steps they took to resolve the issue.
  • Writers will be made aware of issues relating to copyright/referencing of material they post to the blog (including issues related to multimedia content)
