I've had a pretty busy Monday morning and my "things to do list" for the afternoon is huge. Due to my busy schedule I was contemplating giving lunch a miss, however, after some serious consideration I decided against it. Food feeds the brain as well as the belly! Plus, I really needed to step away from the computer and have a short break. Now that I've had my break (and a good feed!) I feel better prepared for the afternoon ahead! It's amazing what a bit of lunch can do!

I'm finding it hard to believe that another academic year is about to begin. And that means -YES -it's time for Flying Start again. In case you haven't heard of it, Flying Start is UniSkills' great 2 day orientation program for first year undergrads who are new to Perth and want to make some new friends before uni starts. Or maybe they are students from schools that only enrol a few students at UWA. And then there are some mature age students who get involved.

Rachel Getting Married
Director: Jonathan Demme
Starring: Anne Hathaway, Rosemarie DeWitt, Debra Winger, Bill
Irwin
Running Time: 114 min.
I have to say I'm not a fan
of dramatic family movies.Usually I end up bored, as the situations are very
far removed from anything I have ever experienced and will ever be likely to
experience.

I've just been helping out at enrolments and it was so much fun. It's so wonderful to be able to assist new students with their transition. A lot of students seemed quite confused and lost, which is "normal". There is a lot to take in, a lot of new faces, a lot of new uni-lingo and acronyms, and a lot of people offering you all sorts of information. Does anyone want to share their enrolment experiences or have any transiition tips to offer?

I'm sitting on the floor of my office, surrounded by 1000s of flyers, trying to get things ready for enrolments next week. It seems to be taking ages, but I guess it's kind of relaxing! My mind keeps wandering and I keep thinking back to my enrolment day. It was pretty scary!

From next week I won't be available in the Resource Room on Fridays. I'll still be around as usual on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On Thursdays I'll be available by appointment only as I'm based in the student services building that day.

Celeste seems to think summer is on the way but daylight savings has been ushered in with rain and more rain (yes, I know the rivers need it). Ordinarily a BIG fan of daylight savings (feels so indulgent to have sunlight so late in the afternoons!)

I turned 30 on Monday and I have started questioning my taste in shoes. I think there must be a direct relationship . Its true Homey Ped ads have started "speaking" to me for the last few years, I love those red shoes that girl wears but I've resisted. Anyway, daggy shoes that I used to wear in a "self reflexive" style now just look daggy. Can one day really have such an effect?
I am trying to get over this because I love shoes, especially daggy ones...

Choke
Director: Clark Gregg
Running Time: 89 min. approx.
Starring: Anjelica Houston, Kelly Macdonald, Sam Rockwell, Brad William Henke

Is it just part of the human condition to never be entirely satisfied with the weather? I struggled to drag myself to campus in the wet winter and now summer has made an appearance I alternate between complaining that it is too hot to think (on the 35 degree+ days) or thinking I should/could be at the beach (on all the other summer days). I guess I should make my peace with it as this is the first proper hot day we've had (and I did I go to the beach? no of course not cos I have an assignment and a tute quiz to do)
