The node.live community has moved!

You can now find the online community for incoming and enrolled UWA students on the UWA Students Facebook Fan Page

The functionality of Facebook fan pages has recently been upgraded and we can now broaden our community to more students and staff. We see the move to Facebook as a natural evolution for the NODE project – from an in-house system to a globally-used network.

The NODE project will continue to run the annual survey of UWA First Year students’ access to, experience with and expectations of ICT. If you have read our book chapter* or any other publication that refers to the node.live community you can now check out our Facebook Fan page or contact the chapter authors.

UWA Staff can direct students to the Facebook group (email for the HTML to create a direct link Facebook badge) and can get more information, disclaimer text and full Terms and Conditions from the Student Services website.

I went away and now I am back

My last post detailed my...anxiety leading up to the exam results.  That seems soooo long ago now!  THankfully I passed everythign but puzzlingly I did better in one unit that I thought I would be lucky to pass and got an annoying 63 in a unit I thought I had kinda mastered!  That leads me to wonder about what units to pick in the future based on these results...I mean is there going to be things I'm not that crazy about but that I'm good at?  And what if I can't get ace marks at the things I really love?  A conundrum no doubt.

Semester 2 already??

I can't believe it -tomorrow sem 2 starts and  all those good intentions about being prepared and getting organised seemed to have flown out the window already. I was going to do some reading, wasn't I. Well I did but it wasn't anything to do with uni work. And I was going to think up a system to get my notes organised. Somehow I got through sem 1 so it couldn't have been that bad but there were a few last minute all-nighters with deadlines due. Maybe not such a good idea. I aim to be a bit ahead of the deadlines but somehow they just sneak up on me.

OLCR: The gods playing dice

Greetings Cool

I hope I find you all in good spirits. Hopefully the OLCR gods have been kind to you.

All my fervent prayers (along the lines of 'Oh my god, I hope I don't get this one or this one!') have been answered, bar one: I have one, read ONE, tutorial on Wednesday - yes, I have to go into Uni for one single tutorial!

New Scholarship Opportunity

The Deafness Council of WA have just announced their inaugural Leadership Scholarship. Is worth $3000 and can be spent on tuition, text materials or any other support considered necessary for the Scholar(s) to successfully undertake a leadership development program. The money can also be used to cover support services such as interpreting,  transcription typing and purchase of assistive listening devices. So if you fit the eligibility its probably worth applying for. More information on how to apply can be found on the UniAccess scholarships page

Exam Results: A Threat to Your Health?

Greetings Cool

So, the results are back. 'Are you happy with your results?' people ask me. Well, I'm not screaming madly and running around in circles, so I guess I'm ok with them. But neither am I running around with a funny hat on my head, laughing, with a bottle of something sweet and bubbly in my hand.

Getting on my bike

I'm a bit lazy on cold winter mornings but if the cost of petrol keeps going up, I'm going to seriously have to think about getting the bike out and riding to uni once semester starts again. I know I should ride more often but there's the whole thing about how much time it takes and carting all the things I need with me. I guess I could just eat less - hmm, I don't know if that's a real option. Rising costs of petrol must be really hurting some people though, even more than me.

So near yet so far

My last blog post seems so long ago as I am concentrating so hard on not tihnking about thinking about my exam results (quite the paradox as Katie@UniAccess says!).  But it's still only Friday evening.  Good job I'm off out tonight - hopefully that'll take my mind off it.  Although someone said that the results might come out earlier than the official date (Monday).  Does that really happen...?

This has to be seen!  The Study Smarter team now host a small army of online animated characters that you can *click and play* to hear the real stories of UWA students.  No special software needed and each story is no more than 90 seconds longTake yourself off to Digital Resources page on the Study Smarter website to have a look.  Go on.  You know you want to.

102 hours to go and counting....

Does that sound like a lot?  102 hours?  apparently that's when the exam results are *out*.  So my efforts to not think about it are completely not working despite my (small) logical brain telling me that there is nothing to be done about it now, the results were decided weeks ago blah blah (maybe i AM turning into my mother...).  Either way it sounds like an example of my logical brain being at war with my emotional one (and guess who's winning!?).
